CHRO view of Talent and Mobility

HR is tasked with more responsibility and risk, yet has generally fewer resources, time and budget.

How do you focus on those initiatives which add maximum value to your bottom line and talent satisfaction?

How do you “jettison” those tasks that do not add line of sight value to organization or people growth?

How do you get everyone “thinking like the CEO?” This session examines case examples and ROI of the “next practices” leaders and organizations are employing to revitalize their core activities and moving “non-core competency” initiatives, tasks and processes to alliances, partners and trusted providers.

Key Takeaways:
1. The fundamental question – what is your business strategy and how do future HR initiatives support the business in the most effective way? How do they fundamentally get executed?

2. How to measure the ROI of INsourcing vs Outsourcing activity and people.

3. How to align everyone to what is important.

4. How to gain influence (and budget) in times of cutbacks and retrenchment. This highly interactive session features case studies of both successful external alliances and next practice sourcing methods.

MANAGING ACROSS BORDERS

Commentator/Thought-Leader

Tahl Tyson, Shareholder.
LITTLER MENDELSON PC

When you have a mobile international workforce, the usual interesting HR challenges will be exponentially more interesting and challenging. Some examples of situations in which employment law differences between the US and Europe will matter for international employers include the following:

• You are sending an American manager on assignment to Europe. What are some things you want him or her to be aware of before starting to manage the team in Europe? • You hear that an executive in Europe has been talking to a competitor. What can you do?

• You have teams that include members in multiple countries. To build relationships across time zones, they spend time getting to know each other through social media sites. Are there some guidelines you can apply to them all? What about potential sanctions?

• What should you know about working time and absence management for cross-border teams?

In discussing these examples, we will cover some key legal differences between the US and Europe, including those relating to at-will employment, performance management and termination, restrictive covenants, data privacy, working time and leaves.

Tahl Tyson is dual-qualified as an attorney in the U.S. and as a solicitor in England. She has over 20 years of experience in U.S. and international employment law. Prior to joining Littler in 2011, Tahl was Global Director, Employee Relations, and Senior Counsel Global Employment for a publicly traded company, spanning over 40 countries. She spent a year in France with legal, HR and site leadership responsibility for the company’s French legal entities.

Tahl’s practice focuses on workplace issues for multinational employers, including a wide variety of proactive compliance programs; restructuring; and legal issues in managing cross-border teams. She also acts as global outside employment counsel for clients integrating regional sites into a global organization to support an over-arching HR strategy aligned with business goals, balanced with local compliance. She received a B.A. in Chinese Studies from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of Washington.
